Every number in this calculator is a starting range pulled from consistent, widely used industry standards, not a guarantee for your exact blank. Suppliers change dimensions between production runs, sometimes without announcing it, so two “20oz skinny tumblers” from two different suppliers can differ by a quarter inch or more in circumference. That’s enough to leave a gap at the seam if you don’t check.
Before a full production run: measure one unit from the actual batch you’re using and compare it against the calculator’s result. If it’s close, you’re set. If it’s off by more than a small margin, trust your own measurement over the calculator.
Shirts and Apparel
Placement size depends on two things: garment size range and where on the shirt the design goes. Youth garments need everything scaled down, not just shrunk from the adult version but repositioned closer to the collar, since a youth torso is proportionally shorter. Plus-size garments (2XL and up) need the opposite adjustment, sized up to avoid a design that looks small on the larger canvas.
One of the most common mistakes here isn’t a wrong measurement, it’s using an adult-sized design on a youth blank, or the reverse. Always confirm garment size range before pulling a number from the calculator.
Ceramic Mugs
Mug wraps are the most standardized of the three blank types here, most 11oz, 12oz, and 15oz mugs from major suppliers fall within a narrow, predictable range. The one detail worth double-checking on your specific mug: handle clearance. Most mug wrap templates include a marked safe zone that keeps text and important graphics clear of where the handle sits, if yours doesn’t, leave a small buffer on both sides of your design just in case.

Tumblers
Tumblers are the least standardized blank in this calculator, and it’s worth understanding why. A tumbler isn’t a straight cylinder, it tapers slightly from a wider top to a narrower bottom. That means the true wrap shape is closer to a trapezoid than a rectangle. The sizes in this calculator use the wider (top) measurement with a small bleed allowance, which gives you a safe, slightly-oversized rectangle that trims cleanly rather than a wrap that falls short.
If your wrap ends up with a visible gap at the seam, that usually means your specific tumbler tapers more than average, not that the calculator was wrong. Trim to fit, and note the actual measurement for next time.
